ChatGPT Connection Configuration

The Open iT MCP Server can be connected to ChatGPT to enable users to access and interact with Open iT data through natural language queries.

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for configuring the connection between the Open iT MCP Server and ChatGPT and installing Open iT Data Reporting Skills, allowing you to retrieve relevant Open iT information directly through the ChatGPT conversation interface.

Note

The following instructions are based on testing the MCP Server connection using a ChatGPT Personal account (Free plan). The exact menu labels, navigation options, and availability of MCP Server connection features may vary depending on the ChatGPT plan, workspace settings, and interface version.

Some MCP Server connection features may require a paid ChatGPT plan or additional workspace permissions.

Configuring Connection

There are two methods for connecting the Open iT MCP Server to ChatGPT. Choose either of the following:

• Connecting to ChatGPT by Importing a Plugin Archive
• Connecting to ChatGPT by Adding a Custom MCP Server

Connecting to ChatGPT by Importing a Plugin Archive

Follow these steps to connect the Open iT MCP Server to ChatGPT by importing the plugin archive.

Note

This method requires a ChatGPT workspace owner or administrator with permission to upload plugin archives.

1. Access the Core Server web interface.

2. On the Home page, navigate to Downloads, then download the OpenAI Plugin ZIP archive (.zip).

   It is recommended to also download the Reporting Skills archive for subsequent configuration in ChatGPT. These skills provide additional reporting capabilities when using the Open iT MCP Server.

3. Open ChatGPT in a web browser and sign in to your account.

4. Follow the instructions in the official OpenAI documentation, Upload or update a plugin ZIP file, to import the downloaded OpenAI Plugin archive into your ChatGPT workspace.

tip

To further verify that the Open iT MCP Server is successfully connected to ChatGPT, ask a question related to Open iT data in the ChatGPT conversation interface. A successful response using data retrieved from the MCP Server indicates that the connection is working properly.

Installing Open iT Data Reporting Skills

Connecting to ChatGPT by Adding a Custom MCP Server

Follow these steps to configure the Open iT MCP Server connection in ChatGPT by adding a custom MCP Server.

1. Open ChatGPT in a web browser and sign in to your account.

2. Click your profile icon, then select Settings.

3. Under Integrations, select Plugins.

4. On the Plugins page, click Browse Directory.

5. Click Add, then select Add custom MCP Server.

6. Complete the following fields:

   Where:

   Field	Description
   Name	Specify the descriptive name to identify the MCP Server connection, such as Open iT MCP Server.
   Description	Specify the brief description of the MCP Server and its purpose.
   Connection	Specify the server subdomain/endpoint URL of your machine where Open iT MCP Server is installed.
   Authentication	Select Authentication to allow MCP Server to connect with authentication.

7. Review the configuration details. Once done, select the checkbox beside I understand and want to continue, then click Create as a plugin to complete the configuration.

8. Confirm connection to your MCP Server by clicking the Continue button at the bottom of the dialog.

   After confirming connection, it will redirect you to Core Server Login page. Provide your Open iT Core Server Admininistrator account credentials.

9. Verify that the Open iT MCP Server appears in the list of configured plugins.

These skills work alongside the Open iT MCP Server to help ChatGPT process retrieved data and generate structured reports and insights based on Open iT reporting capabilities.

Follow these steps to install the Open iT Data Reporting Skills in ChatGPT.

1. If you have not yet downloaded the Open iT Data Reporting Skills archive, access the Core Server web interface, navigate to the Downloads page, and download the Reporting Skills archive.
