Open iT MCP Server
The Open iT MCP Server enables supported AI applications to connect to Open iT and work with software license usage data using natural language.
It uses the Model Context Protocol (MCP), a standard that allows AI applications to communicate with external systems and use the data and capabilities they provide.
With the Open iT MCP Server, you can ask an AI application questions about your Open iT environment without needing to directly access databases or understand the underlying data structures.
For example, you can ask questions such as:
- What are the most heavily used software features last month?
- Who is using Fluent under ANSYS right now?
- What reports are available in Open iT?
- Generate a usage report for a specific product or feature.
The AI application interprets your request and uses the capabilities provided by the Open iT MCP Server to retrieve the appropriate information.
How It Works?
The Open iT MCP Server acts as a bridge between your AI application and Open iT.
When you submit a request, the following process takes place:
- You enter a request in a supported AI application.
- The AI application determines what Open iT information or action is needed.
- The AI application sends the appropriate request to the Open iT MCP Server.
- The MCP Server validates the request and communicates with the appropriate Open iT services.
- Open iT processes the request and returns the authorized information.
- The AI application uses the returned information to answer your request.
This allows you to interact with Open iT using natural language while Open iT continues to control which data and capabilities are available.
Supported AI Applications
The Open iT MCP Server supports integration with the following AI applications, allowing users to access and interact with Open iT data through natural language queries.
- ChatGPT – Enables users to retrieve and interact with Open iT data through ChatGPT conversations using the MCP Server connection.
- Claude – Allows users to access and query Open iT data through Claude conversations using the MCP Server connection.
The availability of MCP Server connections may vary depending on the AI application's subscription plan, organization settings, and interface version.
