Introduction
Open iT version 10.3 introduces new capabilities for AI-powered assistance, software license forecasting, and integration with AI applications. Key highlights include standalone LicensePredictor, Open iT Insight, and the Open iT MCP Server, providing improved access to software usage information, reporting, and analytics.
The release also enhances authentication through Open iT Ingress, introduces new license management capabilities in CLIMS, and improves data processing and reporting. Additional usability, security, and compatibility enhancements are included to provide a more efficient and reliable user experience.
New Features
Standalone LicensePredictor
Open iT reintroduces LicensePredictor as a standalone forecasting tool that helps organizations anticipate software license demand and usage trends over the next 18 months. Using adaptive forecasting techniques, it analyzes historical usage patterns, trends, and seasonality to generate projections that support license planning and capacity management.
LicensePredictor also provides analytical insights and anomaly detection capabilities to help identify unusual usage behavior. These insights enable organizations to make informed decisions, optimize license investments, and proactively address potential license availability and cost concerns.
Open iT Insight
Version 10.3 introduces Open iT Insight, a generative AI-powered assistant that enables users to interact with the Open iT platform and knowledge base through natural language. It simplifies onboarding and helps users access product information and insights with less reliance on technical support.
Open iT Insight provides the following capabilities:
- Conversational assistance: Answers questions about Open iT products, features, and onboarding.
- Natural language reporting: Generates reports, analyses, and insights by querying supported databases using natural language.
These capabilities help users find information, explore usage data, and make informed decisions more efficiently.
This feature requires Core Server upgrade.
Open iT MCP Server
Version 10.3 introduces the Open iT Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server, which enables supported AI applications to connect to Open iT and interact with software license usage data through natural language.
The MCP Server acts as a bridge between AI applications and Open iT, allowing users to retrieve license usage information, explore available reports, and generate reports without directly accessing databases or understanding the underlying data structures.
By processing requests through Open iT services, the MCP Server provides access to authorized information while simplifying data retrieval and reporting.
The MCP Server supports integration with Core Server only.
Enhanced Authentication through Ingress
Version 10.3 introduces enhanced authentication support through Open iT Ingress, enabling centralized authentication across supported Open iT web interfaces.
These enhancements include:
- SAML Authentication: Adds support for Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) authentication through Open iT Ingress.
- Core Server Authentication: Enables users to authenticate through Ingress when accessing the Core Server web interface.
- Analysis Server Authentication: Enables users to authenticate through Ingress when accessing the Analysis Server web interface.
These enhancements provide a more consistent authentication experience across Open iT components and simplify access management.
To use Ingress authentication, the following upgrades are required:
- Core Server: Upgrade both Core Server and Ingress.
- Analysis Server: Upgrade both Analysis Server and Ingress.
CLIMS
Options File Generator
The Options File Generator is a GUI-based tool that simplifies the creation and management of FlexNet options files. It enables administrators to configure license behavior, access control rules, logging settings, and other options through an intuitive interface, then automatically generates a properly formatted options file that can be applied to the license server.
Support for Managing Vendor Visibility
The Manage Vendor Visibility page gives administrators control over which vendor licenses are included in CLIMS monitoring. By default, CLIMS monitors all vendors detected from supported license managers, but administrators can now selectively include or exclude vendors based on their monitoring requirements.
Support for FlexNet Embedded
CLIMS supports the following functionalities for FlexNet Embedded:
- Displays general information about the installed license (i.e., license manager path, license files, log files, configuration file, and features)
- Allows the user to start and stop the license daemon
- Allows the user to monitor the license daemon (e.g., info, status, etc.)
- Shows the user all server commands executed in the client through the Console tab
- Allows the user to see a rundown of the debug log through the Debug tab
- Shows the user the number of combined usages of each feature as well as checkout details
