Installation Verification

After completing the installation of Core Client, it is essential to verify that the required service is running and that all necessary directories have been created.

Windows

Verifying Running Open iT Process

1. Open the Task Manager.

2. Click Services.

3. Verify that the listed service or services are running.

   Service	Purpose
   OpeniTClient	Runs the Core Client background operations used for data collection and communication with the Core Server.
   OpeniTScheduler	Starts configured data-collection, processing, and transfer jobs according to their schedules.

Verifying Created Directories

Go to the <root_dir> of the installation located, by default, in C:\Program Files\OpeniT\Core and verify that the following directories exist:

• bin (<bin_dir>) - contains binary files
  
• Configuration (<config_dir>) - contains Core Client configurations
  
• Log (<debug_dir>) - contains troubleshooting logs created by the Open iT binaries
  This directory and its contents are sent to Open iT Support Team at support@openit.com whenever an issue occurs, and logging should be disabled upon doing so.
  
• src - contains Lua source files
  

Unix

Verifying Running Open iT Process

Go to the bin directory and run the following command:

Command Syntax

./openit-all status

A successful installation displays a prompt that is similar to the one below:

Sending Open iT Daemons: status
openit_scheduler (pid #####) is running...

Alternatively, run the following command to check a specific process status:

Command Syntax

systemctl status <process>

Example

systemctl status openit-scheduler

For Core Clients installed in Rocky Linux, run the following command using a sudoer account to check the process status:

service openit-scheduler status

note

You can also use the service command to start or stop the process (e.g., service openit-scheduler start).

Verifying Created Directories

1. Go to <root_temp_dir> found, by default, in /var/opt/openit and verify that it contains the following directories:

   • debug (<debug_dir)
   • etc (<config_dir>)
   • inst
   • src
   • temp (<temp_dir>)
     

   These directories contain specific configuration files, error and debug logs.

2. Go to <root_dir> found, by default, in /opt/openit and verify that it contains the following directories:

   • bin (<bin_dir>)
   • contrib
   • external
   • images
   • lib
   • libexec

   These directories contain files for the web interface.

3. Go to /etc/opt/openit and check if it contains the following files:

   • openit.cfg
   • openit.env
   • perl

   These files are used for general Open iT configuration.

macOS

Verifying Running Open iT Process

1. Open a terminal.

2. Run the following command to verify that the Open iT Scheduler is running:

   Command Syntax

   /usr/local/openit/bin/openit-scheduler status

   Get the following output if the client is running:

   openit_scheduler (pid ####) is running...

Verifying Created Directories

1. Go to /etc/opt/openit and verify that it contains the following files:

   • openit.cfg
   • openit.env
   • perl

   These files are used for general Open iT configurations.

2. Go to /usr/local/openit and verify that it contains the following directories:

   • bin
   • debug
   • etc
   • lib
   • libexec
   • src
   • temp

   These directories are for the configuration files, error, and debug logs.

3. Go to /var/opt/openit_persistent and verify that it contains a directory named FileRegistry.
